Iran and Zimbabwe agreed to mine uranium. Why Iranians need to go so far? They have enough at home. Maybe just to visit friends. Not much uranium will be mined.

Mugabe is looking to trade anything for oil and arms; and Iran to get supplies of minerals including uranium, and perhaps ivory and land (ie food) in the event of sanctions with teeth. This is a sanctions busting exercise by both of them.
Look out for gratuitous anti-Semitic statements from Mugabe, and he will be instructed to draw the analogy between apartheid SA and Israel.
NB: White Rhodesia never used to be anti-Semitic. Look what the "civilized world" achieved by deposing Smith.
Smith did not hate the blacks and the blacks did not hate him, in fact some revered him as a White Massa. He lived simply and was much attached to the old British ways. The bloody communists, fresh from their killing fields in Vietnam, Cambodia and Ethiopia could not leave a harmless nation alone. I wish them a thousand years in hell.
I agree w/ J's initial take. This was about 2 pariah states looking for friends who are otherwise scarce. The likelihood that Zimbabwe today can produce anything of value is remote. If this was another time and the "friends" were Chinese or Soviet, they could provide mining expertise, but the Iranians are probably as clueless at the Zimbabweans as to how to run a mine.

No one seems to care about what happens to Zimbabwe after the Whites have been defeated. Maybe Smith should have been LESS civilized and win the war.

Paradoxically both Israel and Iran seems to have no qualms doing business with Mugabe.
