Yesterday evening there was a riot in Tel Aviv against illegal infiltrators. Till now all the demonstrations had been AGAINST their deportation back to South Sudan. Something broke, the people lost its fear of PC terror. This event signals to the people of London, Amsterdam, etc. that they are not condemned to live in fear in their homes. Next, so I imagine, the title of this post will be on the front pages of the NYT.

I am talking about coming riots in Chicago and Los Angeles.
Riots are dangerous. The mob can't always tell "good Jews" from "bad Jews," and it doesn't always care.

What if the mob is Jewish? THe whole point of Zionism was that Jews would just become another nationality - there would be Jewish policemen, Jewish whores, Jewish trash collectors, etc. So why not Jewish rioters?
BTW, Herzl's dream didn't quite turn out that way. Jews, for good or bad, still have an importance in world affairs that far outweighs their numbers. For every headline about Lithuania or Armenia or Uruguay, there must be 100 articles written about Israel.

The riot came after (1) several ugly and violent rape cases by Africans, and (2) aftr declarations by Bibi that they will be expulsed that is they are not protected by the State.
This will complicate our relations with the US government.
In the comment at 6:20, I was responding to J's comment above that in which he predicted race riots in Chicago and Los Angeles. Race riots outside of Israel would be dangerous to Jews because: 1) Jews are perceived to be defenders of non-white interests or at least on their side by the white parties to the riot and 2) because Jews aren't really accepted by the "people of color" who represent the other parties to the riots.

Israel gets so much media attention because of the interminable Palestinian conflict, the religius angle which is popular with American evangelical Christians, and the outside importance of Jews in American politics. To some extent, European biased media coverage about Israel can be viewed as a thumb in the eye of the U.S. as well as a thumb in the eye of the Israelis. As Israel becomes more ultra-Orthodox and more Mizrahi in population, the other sides of Israel (technological innovation, literary works) will receive even less attention. It will be all depressing conflict, all the time.
Does anyone know the ethnic makeup of the rioters (Ashkenazi, recent Russian immigrant, Moroccan, Yemeni, etc.?

J being a Western country Israel may hesitate to follow the example of Singapore. But caning is the only approach that will work. Even two months of low pay in Israel can make a difference to someone from Sudan.
